SYNOPSIS
“Endless hustle” in hospitality is a dead end.
For decades, our industry has treated 15-hour days and chronic burnout like a badge of honor, while dismissing mental health as a "weakness" to be swept under the rug. Many of us—fueled by the delusion of our own invincibility—drive ourselves to the absolute brink. We think we’re being tough, but in reality, we’re building fragile cultures that bleed talent, kill performance, and eventually destroy the very businesses (and lives) we’re trying to save.
In hospitality, nothing is neutral.
A leader running on empty isn’t just tired; they are making a massive “withdrawal” from their company's culture, their service standards, and their bottom line. You cannot provide world-class hospitality to guests using broken, exhausted humans. It is statistically and operationally impossible.
Sean Finter speaks from experience. He didn't just study burnout; he lived the crash in fantastic fashion. After building an eight-venue bar/restaurant group and scaling a global bar consultancy to 26 offices in 8 countries, Sean pushed past the limit—sacrificing his health, his relationships, and his peace of mind. He knows exactly how the “hustle at all costs” culture consumes operators. More importantly, he knows the roadmap to recover, restore, and rebuild.
Fresh from the TEDx stage in Barcelona, Sean delivers an unfiltered, no-nonsense perspective on how to lead with clarity without losing your mind. This isn’t a "soft-skills" lecture; it’s a strategic deep-dive into the systems and mindset shifts required to turn a reactionary environment into a progressive powerhouse. He will share how he coaches the best operators in the world to turn a healthy work environment into their greatest competitive advantage.
Attendees Will Learn:
The Anatomy of the Crash: How to identify the "silent" warning signs of burnout in yourself and your team before the damage becomes permanent.
The Performance Pivot: Practical frameworks to shift your culture from “grind harder” to “perform smarter.”
Self-Care as a Business Strategy: Why protecting your mental health is the most critical "deposit" you can make for profit and staff retention.
The “Outlier” Framework: The proven tools Sean uses with global brands to build high-performance workplaces that flourish without the flameout.
“Health Hospitality Advantage” Framework: The framework Sean uses with his clients to spread that health on to guests to crank up hospitality.
Prepare for a session that is as incisive as it is unfiltered. Sean is a compelling storyteller who has spoken in over 30 countries. He’s been brought to his knees by the industry and comes out the other side with a playbook for building a business that thrives—without costing you your soul.
Buckle up. This is a fast-paced, high-impact presentation packed with practical takeaways you can implement the moment you walk back into your building.
BIOGRAPHY
Sean fell in love with hospitality in Canada at age 12. Fortunate to have exceptional mentors early on, he learned to outwork expectations—always doing more than he was paid for and asking for more responsibility than he deserved. He worked his way from the dish pit to the line, and eventually behind the bar, where he felt truly alive.
From there, Sean left Canada to take on management roles in London, England. It was there that he discovered his true passion: building and leading teams to do remarkable things. He later moved to Sydney, Australia, to pursue his dream of owning a bar. Six years later, by the age of 33, Sean had built a mini-empire of eight bars and restaurants, which he sold to take on his next challenge.
That challenge became Barmetrix—a company founded to help bar owners build more sustainable, profitable operations while avoiding the painful mistakes he made as an owner-operator. Before selling the company, Sean expanded Barmetrix into eight countries and helped nearly 10,000 bars worldwide improve performance and profitability.
Now in the third chapter of his career, Sean focuses on leadership, mental health, and sustainable high performance in hospitality. In February 2026, he delivered a TEDx talk in Barcelona on mental health in hospitality, addressing the unseen cost of long hours, pressure, and founder burnout—and why true success must include both performance and personal wellbeing.
Sean has worked and spoken in over 30 countries. His Business of Bars program was rolled out globally with Diageo in more than 50 countries, and he hosts the Hospitality Outliers podcast.
He is currently completing his first published book, distilling decades of real-world experience into practical systems for building high-performing hospitality businesses.
Today, Sean leads The Finter Group, coaching bar owners and senior leaders with one clear mission: to help operators build profitable businesses without sacrificing their health.
